The eight minute mile. Half as fast, twice as slow, as the legendary four minute mile. You know – Roger Bannister and all that – the realm of class athletes but for most a mythical place. But the eight minute mile? When this blog started in 2011, running at eight minute mile pace seemed a suitably challenging target. Then I got to a point when I could run a number of eight minute miles one after the other. Now, with the triple nemesis of age, weight and rubbish knees, and a ‘never-quite-properly-committed’ approach over the intervening years, just one of those eight minute miles seems somehow out of reach, making it a new target! This blog covers the trials and tribulations of a very amateur ‘athlete’ as he runs and cycles on a journey of self-satisfaction, self-discovery and probable self-harm!
